It all rolls into one, and nothing comes for free

it seems like all this life was just a dream

When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears

I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own

... I know this song it ain't never gonna end!!

A lot of people on this forum really, really dislike Black Muddy River, but I actually find it to be one of the best of the latter day tunes (before the bulk of excrement that came in the 90s). Glad to know someone else likes it as it always spoke to me. Maybe because the first time I heard it was the Jerry "comeback" show with the boys post-coma.

Well, I just spent a few minutes listening to some Black Muddy Rivers and have to admit they were mainly unlistenable.

That seems to be the consensus

One of those odd songs that they pulled off better in the studio?

The first:

I remember we were planning are bi-annual show gathering (think it was Ventura) and all the mail-orders were returned.

Very sad times. We all had to focus on work the rest of the year. Man, I got busy after that coma.

It is very high on my list, a very beautiful song.

I don't know if those lyrics are really my favorite, but I was trying to come up with something that hadn't been posted yet. The lyrics aren't exactly the thing with that song.

Agreed. You probably know about this site, but if you don't, it always gives different twists/insights to songs:

Also, the Alex Allan that writes to comment on the song at that site is one of the more famous deadheads:

excrement might be a little strong? there aren't many 90's tunes I like (but black muddy river isn't 90's anyway). Peole should listen to the song sometime! (Maybe just stick to the studio version. I know he messed it up a lot in concert - I don't listen to those.)

I like Lazy River Road.

I learned to play and sing Lazy River Road in the last few months and it is a really nice song!

"Never cared much for careless love"

Liberty
Wave to the Wind
Samba in the Rain

perhaps not strong enough?

I don't really even know them. I guess I should listen to them, I know everyone here makes fun of them.

Hey D--if you don't mind my saying, you seem to be doing fine here today...this thread worked out rather well.

Good to see.

can talk to you without talking to me, we're guilty of the same old thing

Well everybody's dancin' in a ring around the sun
Nobody's finished, we ain't even begun.
So take off your shoes, child, and take off your hat.
Try on your wings and find out where it's at.
